Co-Alliance Swine Intern Shares What Makes Working for Co-Alliance Unique
Jul 29, 2022
Several months ago, I accepted a position with Co-Alliance as the Swine Management and Animal Nutrition Intern. While this position does not necessarily embody what I pictured myself doing this summer, I have not a single regret in this decision. Co-Alliance has given me a variety of opportunities in the short amount of time I have been here. From time in the barn to writing blogs, this summer has been nothing short of exciting.
However, what made this experience truly unique was not the pigs or the projects, but the people that helped me along the way. I was immediately overwhelmed with such a positive set of leaders that each taught me something new. There is something unique about the environment at Co-Alliance.
Unfortunately, integrity is not a characteristic that is easy to come by. But the opposite holds true for Co-Alliance. I was taught early on about the importance of doing the right things, even when nobody is watching. Success is not earned by doing what is easy, but rather doing what is best and being humble. Instead of seeking recognition, the business is driven by the sum of small efforts, day in and day out.
No amount of words could emphasize what makes Co-Alliance different from other companies, but I hope this comes close. I cannot thank the people that led me all summer enough for the opportunities they have given me, and the effort they put in to ensure I had a great experience.

Here are 3 things that stick out to me during my summer with Co-Alliance.
1. One Passion
If I had to choose one word to describe the people I met at Co-Alliance, I would choose passionate. One of the first things I noticed when starting my internship here is the roots that run deep through every single employee. Each person I met this summer shared the same passion as the next. The company works together to prosper the industry, regardless of the division they work in.2. Transformational Leadership
The leadership I was under at Co-Alliance was one of the most memorable pieces of my experience. It was made clear on my first day that I was not just there to work in the barn, but rather to develop myself as a professional in the industry. Rather than pushing for company success only, Co-Alliance emphasizes company AND personal success. Being surrounded by successful people who want to see you succeed is something you don’t find in every company, and I am especially grateful for that part of it.
